Northern Downhill 2010
After an excellent season in 2009 with 9 podium finishes in the junior category, downhill mountain bike racer Ben Moorhouse from Ripon moved into the expert category.
After suffering a mechanical failure in round 1, Ben set off to Hamsterley Forest near Durham for round 2 of the Northern Downhill Series. Saturday practice went well on a pedally track which worked its way at first through the young trees, down and across the first fireroad into a more technical section twisting and turning then across the second fireroad into the mature trees and a fast section ending with a steep set of corners and through the finish line.
Race day Sunday and the weather though dry had a cold chill to it. First practice run and Ben crashed in the second corner bending his handlebars, after a walk around the pits a spare set was lent to him and repairs made. Ben had a good run down in his first race run with a time of 1min 50.45seconds putting him in 1st place but with a second run all was not over. With experts been the last riders down the hill and Ben the last rider overall the pressure was on to perform, this Ben did in fine style putting in a time of 1:47.62 finishing in first place in experts and with a 2 second margin first place overall.
