Team Ticket2RideBC/Descent-Gear.com is pleased to announce its DH Race Team for the 2008 season ahead.
Ticket2RideBC, Whistler’s number 1 mountain bike holiday providers, have again teamed up with Si Paton’s www.Descent-Gear.com online store to produce a race team for the 2008 downhill season.
For 2008, the team will have full support from sponsors including: Commencal Bikes, Maxxis, Hayes, Sun Ringle, Syncros, Five Ten, Finish Line and Adidas. Alongside this the partnership with DH specialists www.Descent-Gear.com ensures that the racers will be well equipped with the latest and greatest gear from the likes of Troy Lee, Spy, Funn, SRAM and RockShox.
In the UK, the Nine-strong squad will be contesting the majority of National and Regional races in the Junior, Expert, Master and Veteran categories.
Abroad, the more experienced members of the squad are heading out to France for the Mega Avalanche and the World Masters Championships, where current reigning World Masters Champion Lynda Davies has a title to retain.
The 2008 Ticket2RideBC/Descent-Gear.com Team Riders are:
Steve Felstead - Vets
Flying the flag as Team Manger - Steve will be contesting rounds of the NPS and SDA series together with a couple of jaunts over to France for the Mega Avalanche and the World Masters and is hoping to still worry some of the ‘young’ Vets!
Lynda Davies - Female Vets
Lynda is our resident female rapido. Last year she continued to whip most of the women racers who were less than half her age and as an added bonus she collected a Gold Medal at the Masters Word Championships in Pra Loup, France! She will be racing in the Pearce, Caersws Cup, NPS, Mega Avalanche and World Masters this year.
Si Parkinson - Expert
After a series of unlucky injuries in the past two years Si is getting back to previous World Cup form and is hoping to build on the good results attained last year. Like his brother, Si has a bit of a mental streak whilst on the bike and likes nothing better than showing off his ‘Suicide’ signature move whenever there’s a kicker jump on course! Si is planning on competing in the Pearce, Caersws Cup and NPS Series this season.
Matt Parkinson - Expert
Matt is mental - on a bike at least, (check out his ‘tank slapper’ as he goes through the stream crossing at Moelfre on ‘The Law of Fives’ dvd!!). After storming season last year he's back in Experts where we expect him to be worrying the top three at the races. Matt will be competing in the Pearce, Caersws Cup and NPS series this year but will be having a short break in the middle whilst he summers in Whistler!
John Young - Master
2007 was John’s first season racing downhill and he proceeded to set the SDA Masters alight by finishing 3rd overall in the series and 4th at the SDA Champs. 2008 will see him hit the NPS Series and World Masters too and we fully expect him to cause a few upsets. A fresh talent to look out for in the SDA and NPS Series plus the World Masters.
Alan Whitelaw - Expert
Most downhill riders have been reading words penned by Alan for years, they just didn’t know it was him looking after Ticket2ridebc’s and NPSDH’s web sites! He’s been an ‘undercover’ part of the team for a couple of years now and after being promoted to Expert for 2008, we thought we might let him out of the broom cupboard this year and worry the expert riders in a T2R/D-G team jersey.
Alan will be riding in the NPS, Pearce and Dragon races this year.
Ben Moorhouse - Junior
Ben has been riding downhill since 2004 and has had his ‘poor’ father transporting him up and down the country to compete in the majority of the major series for many years. In 2008 he has been elevated to the Junior category and has been training hard over the winter and with a 2nd place overall in the recent Hamsterley Winter series, he’s currently in fine fettle for great things this season. (Although like Matt last year, he does wear girls jeans which is a worry!).
Come and catch him in the Team van at the NPS, SDA, National Champs and as many other races as his dad will drive him to!
Tim and Anne Langmaid - Masters
Tim and Anne will tell you themselves that they aren’t going to worry the top three too often, but they are two members of that great breed of UK riders that will turn out during hell and high water, (or the Dragon Series as it’s officially known), to race and are the backbone of UK down hilling. They will be covering the Dragon Series for the Team this year and are also planning on having a slither down the snow at the Mega Avalanche with Lynda and Steve too!
The team will get the chance to make the most of the unique Ticket2Ridebc riders’ centre and facilities when they travel out to Whistler for training weeks during the season, not to mention some serious DH practise care of the Bike Park.
Ticket2RideBC boss Scott Lanzi explained: “It's great that the team has expanded for the 2008 season. We couldn’t ask for a better bunch of riders, people or ambassadors for T2R. They’re all a good laugh, don’t take themselves too seriously and have all been posting some great results. Having Si Paton, the face of DH in the UK on board is an enormous bonus too and will guarantee us even more exposure in the ever growing DH fraternity”.
Descent-Gear.com's Si Paton says, “We only stock the top brands and hence only partner with the best there is. If you are off to Whistler in Canada then Ticket2RideBC.com are the boys as I truly found out during a recent holiday. The Ticket2RideBC/Descent-Gear Team will fly the flag well in 2008, we wish them a successful season and have no doubt they’ll be seen on a podium near you soon!”
